Blake Eugene Miller was born on July 10, 1921 and entered eternal peace November 19, 2006. Blake was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Nancy and Lewis Miller. When he was in his early twenties he joined many other adventurous and proud Americans looking for work and a way in which to serve their country during WWII. Making his way to Hanford, Washington Blake began work as a radiation monitor for G.E. It was at this time he met his future bride, Mina Peoples. After about a year of courtship, the two were married in 1945 in her family home in Minnesota - in front of the fireplace, by Mina?s father - making it a true family affair. In 1955, they were blessed with the arrival of their beloved daughter, Shiela. During Blake?s professional life, he held many positions, eventually becoming an agent for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance, one of many firms he represented. He was also district manager of the Red Cross at one point in the Tri Cities early history, and loved that work tremendously. A gregarious and outgoing man, Blake was active in many community organizations such as Kiwanis, National Association of Life Underwriters and the Richland Light Opera Company. Blake truly loved being part of the early years of Richland, he and Mina participated with gusto as people from all over the country came together and carved out real homes for themselves out west in the desert. They had many adventures during their early years, from facing termination winds and rampant dust, to helping found RLOC. Blake was also very involved in all the activities of the Kiwanis Club during his long membership there. Blake gave many years of devoted service to Central United Protestant Church, where he and Mina were members since its inception in Richland. He served as an usher countless Sundays over the years enjoying many hours of fellowship with his church family. Members of C.U.P. were accustomed to seeing the always-dapper Blake in his signature brightly colored blazers and ties on special holidays. Of all the roles Blake played in his long life, his most cherished role was father. The day Shiela came into this world was the happiest day of his life, and he was blessed with her loving care as he left this world. Blake was preceded in death by his wife, Mina of 56 years, his parents, and sister Mary Jane. He is survived by his precious daughter Shiela and her husband Jorge; Blake's brother J.D and wife Anne, and numerous nieces and nephews.
