Charles William Hiett, 80, of El Paso, Texas died on September 7, 2011 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, WA., surrounded by his family and loving dog. He was born May 30, 1931 in Seattle, Washington to parents, Ethel and George T. Hiett. On February 19, 1952 Charles married Nadine Rambo and they have been married for 59 years. They have been in the Tri-Cities for 2 months. Charles retired from the US Army and National Guard after 32 years of honorable service. He was implemental in designing the Patriot Missile System and enjoyed teaching foreign and domestic troops radar tracking systems throughout his military career. He had the opportunity to regularly dine with Emperor Haile Selassie while stationed in Ethopia. After his retirement, he and Nadine enjoyed traveling across the country visiting friends they made during his military career. Charles cherished spending time with his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He considered his children and grandchildren his greatest accomplishment. Charles was a Ham Radio operator over 50 years, a member of QCWA Chapter 64 for over 25 years, and a member of W5ES Ham Radio Club for 26 years. He enjoyed marksmanship and model railroads. He was a Wilderness and Insight Museum volunteer. Charles was survived by his wife Nadine; daughters Scherry L. Cook and Georgette M. Lovelady; son Charles M. Hiett, sons-in-law Donald M. Cook and James T. Lovelady; granddaughter Samantha L. Lovelady; grandsons Shane M. Cook, Johnathan M. Hiett, and Dillon J. Lovelady; great-grandsons Oliver M. and Eli M. Cook. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Monday, September 12, at 1pm, at Hillcrest Memorial Center. The visitation will be on Sunday, September 11, from 2-5pm at Hillcrest. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA on Tuesday, September 13 at 12:30 pm.
