Born to John Sylvester and Abbie McClain Newbill near Zillah, WA. Died at his home in Pasco, WA, where he has lived for 29 years with his wife Jean Gieselbrecht. Alan was an elementary school principal with the West Valley School district of Yakima, WA. He preferred to be in the classroom teaching young people; Alan was a great teacher. After retiring from the school district, Alan worked for Brannom Instruments doing 'inside work' for his old friend, Jean Nichols. Later he enjoyed driving many kinds of autos for Hertz of Pasco. Alan could always recall past times by the year of the cars he drove. He was very active in the democratic party in the Tri-Cities. Alan loved rooting for the Detroit Tigers. Spending time with his family was most important to Alan. Beside's his wife, Jean of 65 years, Alan leaves two sons: John Alan Sandra Newbill of Pasco, Chris Alan Newbill of Richland, granddaughter; Amaris of Pasco, two nephews: Delbert Nichols of Richland, and James Guy Newbill of Yakima, four nieces: Norma Hollowell, Lornera Hollowell, Merla Ray Newbill Thysell, all of Yakima area, and Gayle Nichols Fleming of Spokane. Alan is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Guy of Wapato and Merl of Yakima, two sisters Letha Parsons of Zillah and Thelma Nichols of Sunnyside. He also outlived two nephews: Albert Nichols and Wally Newbill, three nieces, Sandra Newton, Phyllis Blackburn and Polly Nichols. A Memorial Service will be held at Hillcrest Bruce Lee Memorial Center, 2804 W. Lewis St. in Pasco on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 2pm.
