Albert N. Benar, of Kennewick, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2015 at Serenity Cove in Kennewick, where he received the very best of loving care for the last two years of his life. He is survived by his wife Marie; four children, Cheryl, David, Neil and Michael; grandchildren Ross, Pierce, Lily, Maris and Reva. Albert was born in Istanbul, Turkey on September 1, 1929. He graduated from the University of Istanbul with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1954. In 1957 he went to Manchester, England where he lived for three years as a guest worker. During that time he met Marie Mallon and they were married on July 4, 1959. Albert and Marie Benar emigrated to the United States of America on June 28, 1960. Albert worked for the General Electric Company in Salem, Virginia from 1961 to 1966. He worked for the Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket, Maine from 1966 until he retired in 1993. He and his wife lived in Lynchburg, Virginia from 1993 to 2006. His last years were spent living close to his daughter Cheryl and her husband Mark Duchsherer in Kennewick, WA. He enjoyed hiking and skiing. He won many trophies as an outstanding chess and bridge player. Most of all, he really loved traveling with his family on many vacation trips from Maine to California to visit national parks, historical sites, Walt Disney World and many other tourist attractions. Albert will be loved and missed by all. A service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Center, 9353 West Clearwater Ave., Kennewick.
