Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Ardith Miller passed away peacefully on September 10, 2013. She was preceded in death by husbands Roy Bakan, Floyd Canoy, Howard Miller; daughter Margaret Hartelius; and siblings Ruth Riley, Vada Costello, Darren Thompson, and Karl Karlsson. She is survived by children George Bakan, Nancy Schoeller; grandchildren Deanne Hartelius, Kevin (Kit) Hartelius, Eric (Patty) Hartelius, Rose Hightower, Rebecca Hartelius, Janet Garza, Sam Schoeller, Dan Schoeller, Angela (Dan) Cragin, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Ardith was born on May 5, 1921 in Jerome, Idaho a farm community where she learned to love animals and the earth. Upon moving to Seattle she married Roy Bakan and became mother of three children, in addition, to working as a caregiver. They later moved to the Columbia Basin where she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, democratic politics, 4H clubs, and other community activities, which formed her roots and relationships in the Tri-Cities.
Being creative and artistic, she enjoyed books, flowers, painting, gardening, sewing, and challenging others to Scrabble (get out the dictionary!) making her a true "student of life". The Lord has used her richly on earth; just think what he as planned for her in heaven!
