Arland A. Adams, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 9, 2016 in Richland, WA while traveling the west coast. Born on April 15, 1949 to Mary Sue Allen Adams and Arland A. Adams Sr. in Richmond, VA, he grew up in Pennsylvania with three younger sisters. Following graduation from high school Arland joined the US Navy and served in Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica as a helicopter mechanic. He particularly enjoyed the many species of penguins that inhabited the continent and returned with hundreds of slides and just as many stories. He did, however, complain about the lack of feminine company as there were no women at McMurdo Base. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Arland returned to Pennsylvania, bought a cabin, and began a lifelong career as a self-employed entrepreneur. He was a personable and dynamic salesman. He always had a new business card or tee shirt to distribute that was humorous and clever. During winter, Arland spent as much time away from Pennsylvania as possible, often visiting the beaches in Jamaica where he had many friends. Arland, a lifelong bachelor, enjoyed great food, cold champagne and road trips. Motorcycles, especially Triumphs, were a passion and he was always tinkering with a car, truck or bike. He was an avid reader and library user and truly lived life to the fullest. Arland is survived by three sisters. Mary Adams Alldredge, Sue Adams Currier, Cheryl Adams Boone. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, their spouses as well as by many caring friends. His family thanks Arland's friends who reached out with kind messages and remembrances.
