This is to notify all who knew and loved our mother, Bernice Beatrice Mackey, of her peaceful passing on March 22, 2021 at her residence in Pasco, Washington. Bernice was born November 17, 1931 to Archibald and Beatrice Shepard and raised in Ronan, Montana. The family moved to Pasco in 1947. She graduated from Pasco High School in 1950. She married John Mackey in 1955 and together they raised 6 children. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1982 and raised the remaining 3 younger children as a single parent. Bernice was from a large family of 12 children. She is survived by one sister Laura (Lowell) Waln. The rest of her siblings have passed on. They were Charles Shepard, Ruth White, Harley Shepard, Marion Hall, Mac Shepard, Cecil Shepard, Lyle Shepard, Lee Shepard, Eugene Shepard, and Les Shepard. Bernice is survived by her children Natasha (Mike) Diorio, Michelle Marcum, Melody (Rick) Atkinson, Nicolle Mackey, John (Sarah) Mackey, and Eugene (Carla) Mackey. Also, she is survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. After her husband's death she returned to work in banking until she retired. As a child, she loved the mountains and streams around her home in Ronan where she enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. She loved traveling with friends and family. She also had a love of gardening her entire life. She truly had a "green thumb." She was always a hospitable and gracious hostess to her many friends, family and guests. Bernice was a spiritual woman and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1952. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed spending numerous hours teaching others Bible truths, which included a period of time assisting a Russian language group. Upon retiring, Bernice spent several years as a full-time minister until her health limited her activities. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her!
