Bernice Catherine Taylor Bernice Catherine Taylor passed away peacefully on October 14, 2013. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bernice is now with our Lord Jesus. Bernice was born in Mott, North Dakota on September 21, 1932 to George and Barbara Thomas. Bernice moved to Portland, Oregon where she graduated High School. Following high school graduation Bernice obtained a top secret clearance to work as a civilian employee for the United States Army. Bernice met her future husband of more than 59 years while on a blind date in January 1954. They were married on May 28, 1954. In February 1955, Ken and Bernice moved to Richland, Washington where they raised their four children. Bernice worked for Yakima Federal Savings & Loan for more than 30 years. Bernice enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events; soccer, baseball, football and softball. Upon retirement, Bernice and Ken spent many years traveling to Yuma, Arizona for the winter, where they developed lasting friendships with many people. For the past 7 years Bernice and Ken enjoyed the beauty of the Pacific Ocean along the Oregon coast in Rockaway, Oregon where they owned a small beach home. Bernice's passion was her family. A devoted wife and mother, she was so protective of her family, as Bernice would say, "I'm a mother bear protecting my cubs" and she was always there. Bernice always made time to enjoy being around her family, vacationing at the Oregon coast or camping, and traveling to Yuma, Arizona for the winters. Bernice is survived by her husband Kenneth of more than 59 years, her sons Kenneth and (Denise) of Kennewick, Larry and (Dana) of Richland, Dennis of Pasco and daughter Patty and (Ed) of Richland, along with 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Below is a poem that our mother cherished and she wanted it attached to her obituary when the Lord called her home. It reads: Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the Grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting "Holy Shit...What a Ride"! Our mother will be greatly missed by so very many people and the shared memories will remain with us all forever. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
