BETTY L. DE LA CRUZ

AGE 90

Betty was born Nov. 15, 1932, in Payette Idaho to Harry and Myrtle Halstead. She was the youngest of their 3 children. She often spoke of living in the Everett and Snohomish areas as a young girl and catching Salmon in the nearby river by hand. In school she did Poem Readings, participated in Drama, was a Tap Dancer, and a Baton Twirler in the school band. After her Dad died when she was in her teens she babysat kids to help her mom pay the bills.

On June 17, 1951 she married the love of her life Edward N. DeLaCruz (Ed, Eddie or Sonny they called him). She would tell how they lived in a Railroad Boxcar first starting out and later living in Walla Walla. They had a son David Edward DeLaCruz and later moved to Central California to find work then had a daughter Sharie.

Betty worked as a waitress at the "Woolworths" store dinner, then at a near to their home Drive Inn Hamburger joint call "The Snack Shack". And later as an Assistant Manager of a dress store in the Visalia Mall.

But First and Foremost was Faith and Family to Betty. As a Jehovah's Witness she loved teaching the Bible Door to Door or to whomever would lend a listening ear. She also had a big share in raising her 3 grandkids Laura, Shane, and Matt. And often organized fun parties for them, their cousins, and friends. She loved Picnic's, Ice Cream, Kids, Socializing, and Mountain Drives.

After her daughter married and moved to Pasco Betty, her husband Ed, and son David followed. And in 1993 Betty went to work for the Pasco School District Food Service Dept. Feeding the kids at the park in the summer, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, then later at McGee. She was always very friendly, happy, and took pride in her work. Earning her the Crystal Apple Award at her retirement in 2007 after 14 years of making sure Pasco students had nutritious meals to eat. She lived a FULL-FILLED life until her passing on March 12,2023.

She is preceded in Death by her husband Edward N. DeLaCruz, son David Edward DeLaCruz, and her two sisters Gladys Lovett and Marilyn Velasquez.

She is Survived by her daughter Sharon L. Hawkins (Sharie), Sharie's husband Mike, their 2 sons Michael Shane Hawkins and Matthew Shawn Hawkins (Matt). And Betty's granddaughter Laura Lee Moore. Plus 4 great granddaughters and 2 great grandsons. Plus, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

We will all miss her Smiles, Funny Stories and Laughter. Until the Resurrection and All is made New, Revelation 21:4,5.
