Betty Marie (Walker) Gipe was born on October 30, 1937, in Lewistown, Montana to Ralph and Mabel Walker. She grew up on a farm near Benchland, Montana. She attended primary school in Benchland and graduated from 8th grade there at the top of her class of 1. She attended high school in Moccasin, Montana. After graduating, she attended community college in Great Falls, Montana. While there she met her future husband, Harold Gipe, on a blind date at a dance with a friend from Moccasin. Harold and Betty were married on September 14, 1956. They settled in Great Falls where they raised their two daughters, Penny Lynn (Franz) and Debra Jean (Walker). In 1975 they relocated to Aloha, Oregon. They were married for 35 years when Harold passed away in November 1991.
Betty worked as a cook in the school cafeteria in Great Falls for several years and then for the Beaverton School District from 1975 until she retired in 2002. She was also active in the Aloha Christian Church during her time there. She loved to sew, read, and watch Hallmark movies. She also enjoyed time with her friends and family, shopping, going to craft fairs, Dairy Queen, and the Oregon Coast.
After suffering a stroke in 2016, she sold her home in Aloha and moved to live with daughter Debra in Hermiston, Oregon. She lived in Hermiston until 2023 when she moved into Fleur de Lis Adult Family Home in Kennewick, Washington where she passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 87.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Debra Walker, 7 grandchildren - Jennifer (Tom) Smith, Matthew (Lyndee) Walker, Sarah (Brian) Shaw, Michael (JoDell) Walker, Stephanie (Dustin) Long, Rebecca (Mark) Smith, and Hannah Walker - 12 great-grandchildren, sisters Joyce (Dale) Korin, Susan (Mike)Seaburg, and brothers Bill Walker and David (Susan) Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Gipe, parents Ralph and Mabel Walker, daughter Penny Franz, and brothers Larry and Jim Walker.
No services will be held at this time. Betty will be cremated and her remains, along with those of Harold, will be taken to Montana for interment at a later date.
