Betty Louisa (Christiansen) Swinyard was born April 17, 1922, to Oliver and Josephine Christiansen in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She married James G. Swinyard on Feb. 11, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1946 they moved to the Deer Park area where they raised their family. Betty was active in the Women's Civic Club, Thursday Club, the Deer Park Float Association and the Band Boosters. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a Cub Scout den mother and a Bluebird leader. In 2003 she moved to Kennewick, Wash., and was cared for by her daughter, LouAnne, until the time of her death, Sept. 20, 2016. She is survived by her five children, James (Janet) Swinyard, Lynn (Jewell) Swinyard, Joe (Faye) Swinyard, LouAnne (Dennis) Traver and Susan (Mike) Connelly. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents and three siblings. She instilled a sense of family in her children and their children that we carry with us to this day and is evident whenever we are all together.
