Obituary

Obituary Bonnie Lee Britt, born Bonnie Lee Dodson, was the second daughter of Miriam and Charles Dodson. Born in Burbank, CA in 1941, she grew up during, and witnessed, the social turmoil of the 60's and 70's and the financial hardships of the 80's. She had a passion and talent for art, science, history, and her family. She kept her children home from school to watch the moon landing, pushed them relentlessly to take advantage of the opportunities she could not, and made damn sure her boys were educated, independent, and self-sufficient.   As a child she camped, fished, cooked, and knew how to shoot and handle both a bow and a gun. She was fearless when it came to animals and plants, and biology was her passion; her favorite job was working as a student and assistant in the collections department of a natural history museum. Despite crippling arthritis, she painted, sewed, did needlepoint, took online classes, finished her degree, spent years researching and archiving her family's genealogy, and travelled when her body let her.   Her mind never stopped thirsting for knowledge. During rehabilitation for her first heart attack, she was listening to books and podcasts on history, psychology, and science, with the occasional story from her favorite mystery writer, Agatha Christie.   She could always conjure a keen sense of proportion when it was needed most. During one of her sickest moments in the last month of her life, she told her son that she hates to whine about how she feels "because as bad I feel, I'm lucky to be in a place where I have care while so many others do not." She fought her illness with tremendous will.   Bonnie is survived by her beloved husband John, her son Michael, her daughter-in-law Faye, her sister Joyce, and niece Shellie.
