David Charles Vander Veen, 67, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Pasco, Washington. Dave was born December 6, 1945 in Bellingham, WA to Charles and Betty Terpsma and later adopted by his aunt and uncle, Rinse and Hilda Vander Veen, after the death of his parents at age 4. Dave is a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He loved the outdoors, walks along the Columbia River, spending time with his family and Gospel music. He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church and volunteered his time at the Union Gospel Mission. Dave is survived by his wife, Gayle; children, Janelle (David) Montoya, Paul (Teresa) Vander Veen and Sarah Vander Veen; grandchildren, Janet, Mariah, Heidi, David, Rebecca, and Sufia; brother, Glen Neville; sister, Kathy Phipps; former spouse and good friend, Sharon Vander Veen and numerous other friends and family. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty and Rinse and Hilda; sisters, Carol Nebergall and Janet Kesting. Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15 at Temple Baptist Church, 4555 Arena Rd., Richland at 11:00am. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 16 at Monumenta Cemetery, 1301 E. Street #204, Lynden, at 2:00pm. Immediately following the graveside service, there will be a gathering in the Fireside Room at the Third Christian Reformed Church, Lynden, WA.
