Delores Rose Tenny Died of lung Cancer on June 14th 2015 at her home in Kennewick. She hadn't smoked for over thirty years. She was born Delores Rose Shepard on October 27th 1929 four blocks away in an Aladdin Precut farm house on five acres at 905 W. Grand Ronde Ave outside of the very small town of Kennewick. Delores was born to George and Rose Shepard 85 years ago before the hospitals, before the Navy came to the Pasco airport, before Hanford was evacuated and became nuclear, and before the dams and dikes or any of the bridges. Mom could see the Columbia River from their home. She had two sisters Martha (Mickey) Cox, and Odile Duffy who owned Duffy's Trailer court by Clover Island. It had the first pool ever built in Kennewick with a flat mushroom shaped island in the center of the deep end. She had three brothers, George, Hugh and Guy Shepard. Delores graduated from Kennewick High and married her high school sweetheart Ollie Marshall Almarode on August 6th 1948. They had three children, Marshall E. Almarode, Robert L. Almarode and Cindy Rose Walker. The Almarode family lived at the corner of tenth and Garfield until Ollie got a job in Southern California in 1969. Ollie Died of a heart attack in February of 1981 and Delores moved back to Kennewick two years later. Soon after, Marshall introduced his mother to his high school Sunday school teacher, Harvey Tenny. They discovered happiness and love and married on January 28th 1984. Harvey brought three of his adult children with him into the family. William (Bill) Tenny-Brittian, David Tenny, and Kathleen Whitescarver. Mom and dad were Christian examples to all, in their love and devotion to each other. The first time the Almarodes went camping was about 1964 on the Toucannon River with Doug and Janet Sloan. Janet was mom's best friend from when they were kids. Mom was in Eastern Star and the whole family was in Freemasonry. We went to all the functions including camping all over eastern Washington with the Ameranth. Delores and Harvey started fishing and camping under the canopy of Dad's new Ford Ranger Pickup. They bought a small pop up motor home (their Jitney) and finally a 21 foot Toyota motor home that they took all over the country. Delores was very active and refinished oak furniture, gardening, braiding rugs, making purses and pillows for Knotts Berry Farm, and sewing quilts. Delores and Marshall built a 4300 square foot Passive Solar home in 1983. After Delores married Harvey, he added the finishing touches to the inside and built custom oak kitchen cabinets. Mom's Christian faith was very quiet but she showed it in her love, acceptance and compassion. She touched many people in many ways. She believed what Jesus said paraphrasing, "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." Mom knew that the only way to Heaven was through the Jesus of the Bible, John 14:6. Her mother Rose Shepard and her husband Harvey Tenny were our Christian examples. She is survived by her husband, her six children, over twenty grand children, and numerous great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 in Kennewick at South Hill Church on 27th and 395.
