Obituary

Doris Jansen was born December 29, 1925 in Lacrosse, Washington to Mark and Velma Camp. She attended school in Lacrosse through her junior year of high school. The family then moved to Spokane where she graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She met and married her husband Shirk Jansen on November 9, 1946. She began working as a bookkeeper at Old National Bank and then for many years worked side by side with her mother cooking at the Masonic Temple for all gatherings. She later began working at West Valley High School in the kitchen. When Shirk retired Doris quit working so they could pursue other interests together. They were both very active in the El Katif Shrine with Doris volunteering at the Shriner's Hospital a number of years. They traveled to numerous worldwide locations. They both volunteered multiple years in the "elephant booth" at the Spokane Interstate Fair. Doris' greatest joy was cooking for others. Pecan and Peanut Butter pies were specialties. Doris passed away peacefully on September 12, 2013 at Guardian Angel Homes in Richland, Washington. She is survived by her son Mark (Sara) of Pasco, Washington, and their two daughters, Jenny Jansen and Katie (Jeremy) Manning; her daughter Marci (George) Hambly, their daughter Erin Hambly and son Jeremy (Hiedi) Hambly and 8 great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday September 28, 2013 at 2PM at Fairmount Gardens in Spokane, Washington. The family wishes to thank Amanda and the many care givers at The Cottage, Guardian Angel Homes in Richland and her Hospice Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care.
