Obituary

Douglas E. Jackson, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, born April 13th, 1947 to Jim & Nadine Jackson, surrounded by family, passed away on March 21st, 2014 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Doug attended Walla Walla High School where he graduated in 1965. In 1966, he married his high school sweetheart LaRayne Dean. Doug then joined the National Guard where he attended OCS and became an officer. In 1973, Doug & LaRayne purchased the family business, "Dean's Warehouse" from LaRayne's parents Cliff & Tiny Dean. In 1978, they purchased Larsen Transfer in Richland, WA & Pendleton, OR and moved to Kennewick, WA to raise their kids. Doug retired in 2005 and sold Larsen Transfer to his children. You could always find Doug at the Spudnut shop, trading jokes with good friends or at Meadow Springs CC working on his short game, where he was a member for 32 years. But he would always drop everything for his grandkids. He was the most loving, caring Grandpa. Always putting his grandkids above everything else, he never missed any of their events. In 2007, at the age of 60, Doug was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. He was set on beating this horrible disease. Unfortunately, in 2013 he had to be admitted into a facility. He spent the rest of his days in a great home at Guardian Angel in Richland, WA. We can't thank the great staff at Guardian Angel enough. They were all warm, compassionate and caring people. A special thanks to Riley Mays who was always there for Doug, even helping with him outside of the home. Riley, we will always hold a special place for you in our hearts. Doug's honesty, loyalty and love to his family and friends are values that we can all learn from. He never judged or held a grudge. He always gave to those in need. He was the true definition of a good man. Doug is survived by his loving wife LaRayne of 48 yrs. of Richland; his brother Dale (Joan) of Kennewick; sister Darlene (Frank) of Kellogg, ID; sister Dawn of Spokane; sister in law Janis of Walla Walla; son Douglas (Renee) of Richland, son Dean (Deana) of Kennewick, daughter Darcy (Dan) of Idaho falls and son Tony Larson of Kennewick, 7 grand children, Jordan, Dillon, Austin, Logan, Taylor, Tori and Madison as well as many nieces and nephews. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday April 12th, at 2pm at Meadow Springs CC. We ask that all who attend please come with good jokes and stories to share about Doug.
