The world received a blessing on August 10, 1925 when Hubert Earl Robison was born. He was born at home in the tiny town of Minter, Texas. His parents called him Hubert but most people knew him as "Earl." At the age of 98 he was taken home on December 8, 2023.

He grew up in nearby Paris, Texas (yes, it does have an Eiffel tower replica – with a large red cowboy hat on top). Like many others, his family struggled through the Great Depression. He helped the family by delivering newspapers by bicycle on a rural route, caring for lawns and hunting squirrels. He later joined his father working at the local vinegar plant.

Earl joined the Boy Scouts of America and really enjoyed camping and the many activities of scouting. He found a lifelong passion when he worked on the Aviation Merit Badge. He saved his money and learned to fly. He soloed after 3 lessons and had his pilot's license by the time he was 14.

Earl graduated from High School in 1943 and, like many young men at that time, he volunteered for the military. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps when he turned 18 that August. He trained as an armorer/gunner on B-17 bombers which were intended to join the war in Europe. However, late in his training, his crew was transferred to train on the larger B-29 bombers. After completing this training, he was on alert status in San Francisco waiting for deployment to the Pacific Theater when the war ended in 1945. He was discharged a few months later in 1946. His military service experiences ranged from boredom, to exciting, to frightening.

Earl's best military experience came when he met a pretty Iowa girl, Alma Louise Bolen, at a dance in Sioux City, Iowa. He was thoroughly smitten! They were married in Paris, Texas May 11, 1947. They would spend the next 68 years facing the challenges of life as a team. They had 4 children which, of course, were a challenge and a blessing.

After their marriage, Earl worked several years as a lineman for Texas Electric. After several near misses, he decided it was a not a good job for a family man that wanted to live long enough to raise his children. He took a leap of faith and jumped to a new career as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration. They told him he was too old (33?) to pass the training but they let him in because he was an experienced pilot. He was the only one in the group to successfully complete the training. After his retirement, he was called back by the FAA to train new air traffic controllers to replace those who were fired when they went on strike in 1981.

Back in 1952, Earl and Alma, became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This started a long and faithful discipleship as they committed themselves to follow Jesus Christ. Over the years, they served with great devotion in many Church responsibilities. In 1990-1991, they served a mission to the Church historical site in Nauvoo, Illinois. This mission was a great highlight in their lives.

Alma passed away May 1, 2015 in Richland, Washington. Earl was crushed but faithfully soldiered on. He is no doubt thrilled to rejoin her "on the other side."

Earl and Alma are survived by their 4 children and their spouses: David Earl and Vicki Lynn (Bailey) Robison, John Edward and Sherrily Anne (Hill) Robison, Lora B (Robison) and Paul James Smith, Wesley Ross and Sharee Lynn (Kincaid) Robison. They are also survived by numerous beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Earl will be held Saturday, December 16th at 10:00 AM at the Pittsburgh Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint, 724 N. Pittsburgh St., Kennewick, WA.
