Edward Allen Peterson went to be a Rider in the sky May 13, 2025. He passed peacefully in his own bed surrounded by loved ones.
Ed was born October 12th 1932 to Arthur and Dorothy Peterson in Granite Falls MN. They lived on a farm outside of Echo Minnesota and moved to Floodwood in 1936 or 1937. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 and worked for his uncle Allen on his farm in Echo. In April of 1951 he joined the US Air Force with basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio TX then he went to Cook and Baker school in Fort Sheridan IL. He was honorably discharged in April of 1955. After he returned home he worked as a butcher for Snyders IGA, then went to radio and TV repair school. He installed TV's and nurse call systems in hospitals until early in 1961 when he packed up and moved with his brother Cliff to California. He worked in the aerospace industry until 1970 and then was a meat inspector for the USDA in Los Angeles area. He moved in August of 1972 to Wallula WA, where he worked until 1973. In the fall of 1972 he met Susan Metcalf and they were married in December of 1972. He adopted Susan's son David, and they had their daughter, Beverly in 1978. In 1973 they bought and farmed Block 19 Unit 19, and in 1984 they moved to their current residence in Basin City. He worked for Cenex and western farmers until the spring of 1986 and then worked for the South Columbia Basin Irrigation District as a ditch rider until he retired in January 1998. He then became busier than before with wood working, saw/knife sharpening, gardening and being everyone's Mr. Fixit.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Dorothy Peterson his brothers David and Clifford Peterson his sister Rose and brother-in-law Darrell Nelson. He is survived by his wife Susan, his son David (Megan), his daughter Beverly (Andrew), and grandchildren Tristan Mullins, Saige Feuerborn and Chase Feuerborn.
A viewing will be held May 19th 11 AM at Einan's at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Pasco WA with a graveside service starting at 12:30. A memorial will be held at the Eltopia United Church of Christ on May 25th at 1pm, followed by a Celebration of Life BBQ at the Peterson residence in Basin City. All are welcome to come share their stories of Ed.
