Obituary

Frances Jane Alexander McCurley was born with an identical twin sister, Frankie, to Burney and Ruby Alexander in the small north Texas town of Burkburnett, on December 2, 1921. The two were well known as the Alexander twins and were Burkburnett's first Drum Majorettes in 1939 and 1940. Her diaries make it clear that her sister Frankie was not alone in making mischief. Frances had a sizzle, charm, stubbornness, and senses of fashion and humor that made her impossible to forget. Frances excelled in school, and spent one year in college before marrying Glen Samuel McCurley in 1942. Together they raised a family of boys, and she assisted him with his business until his untimely passing in 1972. She never remarried and supported herself with work in Dallas and Houston until 1983 when she retired to San Diego, California. In San Diego, she volunteered many years with the Catholic Charities Foster Grandparent Program where she assisted with the education and development of many disadvantaged children. All of her life, Frances stayed in close touch with her identical twin, often saying that she felt what her sister was feeling even though separated by great distance. She joined her sister in 1987 to return to Burkburnett to care for their elderly mother until her death in 1989. Frances lived comfortably the last two years of her life at Wynwood of Columbia Edgewater in Richland Washington. She died peacefully in her sleep on February 24, 2013 and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Frances is survived by her younger brother, B.H. Alexander, Jr., and his wife, Margaret, of Burkburnett. She is also survived by her sons, Glen Jr., Don, and Clay, their wives Judy, Francoises, and Lisa. She was very proud of grandson Roddy and his wife Julie, their children Chase, Kaylee, and Lexi; and Clay's children, Leland and Anna. Her very dear co-grandparents, June and Lee Welsh, held a special place in her life and heart, and she was an important part of all Welsh family gatherings for many years. Frances was pleased that her sons married such loving women and adored each of her daughters-in-law. In addition to her husband Glen, parents, and sister, Frankie 2008, Frances was preceded in death by her grandson Craig, of whom she was also very proud. We sincerely thank the caring staff of Wynwood, Lower Valley Hospice, Serena Williams, ARNP, Dr. Gordon Hsieh, and the medical staff who assisted Frances at Kadlec Medical Center for their compassionate care and unwavering concern for her family. Frances was a charming beauty, free now to go dance at Glen and Judy's 50th wedding anniversary party. She made it to 91 years, loved her 3 sons beyond measure, and we loved having her in the Tri-Cities these last 2 years. She left enough sparkling memories to keep us all thinking of her every day. At her request, her cremains will be combined with Frankie's and a memorial service will be held when the weather is warm. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to sign the online guest book at www.HillcrestMemorialCenter.com, where there are fun photos of Frances and Frankie.
