Gordon died peacefully on the evening of September 11, 2010 at Agape Care in Pasco, Washington with his wife, Barbara, by his side. He was born on September 20, 1922, to George and Cora Bissell Rogers in Spokane, Washington. Gordon graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army from 1943 – 1946 including over a year in the Pacific theatre. He rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1946. Gordon graduated from Washington State University in 1947 with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He spent his entire career at Hanford, retiring from Westinghouse Hanford in 1984. Gordon was an active volunteer in his retirement. He worked with the American Nuclear Society Eastern Washington Section, Hanford Advisory Board, Franklin County Office of Emergency Management, and CREHST Museum during his retirement years. Gordon's family was a source of great pride to him. He married his wife, Barbara, in 1955. They settled in Richland for several years, began a family with the birth of their two oldest children Dave and Jenny then moved to Pasco where they have lived since 1960. Gordon and Barbara had two more children Dan and Julie after moving to Pasco. Gordon loved life in the Tri-Cities. He was a regular walker along the Columbia River, loved to take drives and admire the beauty of the Eastern Washington geology, and enjoyed ski trips to the many ski areas within driving distance of the Tri-Cities. Gordon is survived by his wife, four children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, and his sister, Elizabeth Spark. A memorial service in celebration of Gordon's life is planned for Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 1 PM. The service will be held at The Country Gentleman, 9221 West Clearwater Avenue, Kennewick, Washington.
