Hazel Eileen Mahan
Hazel Eileen Mahan was born January 28, 1919, to Elven and Lottie Galloway in Walla Walla, WA, the second of four daughters. The family relocated to Pasco in 1923, where she grew up later marrying Kenneth Clarence Mahan on August 5, 1935. Hazel and Ken were the parents of five boys.
In the 1940's, she raised their boys while being active in school PTA and waiting for Ken to return from the war. The 50s saw Ken and Hazel involved in stock car racing at multiple tracks throughout Southeastern Washington. On more than one occasion she participated in a Powderpuff Derby, occasionally winning. On one occasion she overturned the car and proudly told Ken that she remembered to turn the engine off after rolling over.
In the late 50s and 60s, Hazel and Ken got involved in the Tri-City Columbians Drum and Bugle Corp, with sons Ron and Vic, traveling all over the northwest and occasionally to national competitions. In the later 60s they ran the local Snap-On Tools business until retiring.
Hazel devoted herself to her family and a few close friends. She was a beloved presence at family gatherings for holidays and birthdays. We are forever grateful to our mother and father for raising us in a loving home while giving us a strong sense of respect for others and being productive members of society.
She is survived by sons Ronald Kenneth (Judy), Robert Edward ( Maggie), 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ken, sisters Donna, Elaine, and Opal. One son lost at birth, sons Donald and Victor and great grandson Sean.
Our family is thankful for the excellent care she received at Parkview Estates during her final days. We extend our most heartfelt thanks for the care provided by doctors, nurses and staff at Chaplaincy Hospice Care in Kennewick.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to send a gift in Hazel's name to Chaplaincy Hospice Care, 2108 West Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
