Obituary

HENRY M. DEVEREAUX Henry M. Devereaux, a long-time Pasco resident, passed away January 28, 2016 after a long illness. He was 65. Mr. Devereaux graduated from Pasco High and obtained his B.A. in history from the University of Washington. He earned his Master's Degree in Education from Washington State University in 1982. Notwithstanding his association with both universities, he remained an unrepentant Husky throughout his life. Hank taught history first at Isaac Stevens Junior High and later at Pasco High, where he himself had graduated in 1968. Many of his former students kept in touch, and he enjoyed visits from some of them during his illness. He liked nothing better than discussing history, politics, and fashion with his friends, and in his later years he adopted several homeless cats who kept him company and gave him solace. Hank is survived by his brother, William Devereaux of Salem, Oregon, nephews William, Lawrence, and Kenneth, and niece Debra. His family and friends owe deep appreciation to the staff at Life Care of Kennewick for their excellent nursing care and to Hank's friend Humberto Ortiz and his family for their constant friendship and support during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prevent Homeless Pets, 812 Della St., Benton City, WA 99320.
