Obituary

James Huston Burney, 90, passed away on August 4, 2024, in Richland, Washington. He was born on September 6, 1933, in Anniston, Alabama, to William Burney and Ida Mae McCullars.

A proud veteran, James served his country in the United States Marine Corps. In July 1964, he married the love of his life, Fredine "Freddy" Hamilton, and together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. James called Richland home for the past 45 years.

James dedicated his career to nuclear security at WPPSS, now known as Energy Northwest. Beyond his professional life, he was an active member of Bethel Church and participated in various groups, including a Bible men's group, the Columbia Basin Racquet Club (CBRC), and Sham-Na-Pum Golf Club. He had a deep love for University of Alabama sports, golf, music, and dogs, and found joy in writing and watching classic John Wayne movies.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Freddy; his son, Jamie; his daughter, Lisa; and his beloved granddaughter, Cali. He is also survived by his sisters, Maryanne and Brenda, along with his nieces and nephews, Angela, Niel, Robbie, Jodie, and many others who will miss him dearly.
