James Arthur Clapperton, better known as Jim, passed away April 16, 2024, in Kennewick, WA. Jim was a longtime resident of Kamiah, ID, having spent a majority of his 69 years residing there with his wife, Shannon, and three daughters: Anne, Rebecca, and Cristin. Family is what he cherished most and despite living with dementia in his final years, his desire to spend time with his family was enduring, only to be outlasted by his love of chocolate.

Born on July 25, 1954, Jim was the youngest child of John and Betty Jo Clapperton. Jim and siblings Barb and Dave spent their early years in New Martinsville, WV before moving to Pittsburgh, PA, where Jim graduated from Upper Saint Clair High School. He continued his education at Wittenberg University and Penn State, earning a degree in Forest Management. Jim's love of the outdoors and desire to travel led him to Idaho where he met Shannon and they were married October 6, 1979, in Orofino, ID.

Jim spent over 35 years working for the Idaho Department of Lands, starting as a forester, and ending his career as supervisor for the Maggie Creek District. He was an active member of the Kamiah Community Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder for many years. His love of sports also led him to coach little league, play fantasy football, cheer on the Steelers, and encourage his children and grandchildren to pursue athletics. His outdoor passions were hunting, camping, and managing his own timber ground. He adored his grandchildren Caleb, Alaina, Dylan, Sylvie, and Maris and hoped to instill in them his love for nature. While quite serious at times, his kindness, generosity, and humor will be the memories most cherished by his family.

The family will hold a private memorial service but encourage all those whose life he touched to plant a tree in his memory.
