Jane V. Carlberg, 85, formerly of Libby died August 29, 2006 at Richland, Washington. She was born January 27, 1921 in Middleborough, England to Thomas and Alice Crabtree Hagan . She attended Catholic schools in England from elementary to graduating from high school. She was united in marriage to Earl Carlberg in Aylesbury, England on September 9, 1943. With 2 babies in tow, one 2 years old and the other a mere nine weeks, she made the pilgrimage on a passenger ship to New York, then a train to Libby, Montana. What a culture shock it was for her to step off the train to gaze upon the rough hewn hamlet of Libby. She grew to love the town and the natural beauty that surrounds it. The friends she made over the years were deeply treasured. Jane was a homemaker until 1965 when she became employed by the St. Regis Paper Company for sixteen years at the plywood plant, being among the first women hired there; she remained there until retiring in 1979. She enjoyed camping with family and was a voracious reader. She was a great mother who supported and encouraged her children. As a longtime member of St. Joseph?s Parish, her belief in God and the Catholic Church were a sustaining force in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1994 and a brother Peter. Survivors include her children Laurence Carlberg, Elma, Wash.; Pete Carlberg, Sheridan, Wyo.; Pam Moore, Grandview, Wash.; Mike Carlberg, Libby, Mont.; Sheelagh Fenison, Pasco, Wash.; 2 brothers Tom Hagan and John Hagan, England; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services will be Friday, September 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby.
