Obituary

?Thank you, God for this beautiful world and my life in it.? Jane regretfully left her earthly family to join her heavenly one on Oct. 22, 2007, from Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis, cause unknown. She was born in Minden, NE on March 29, 1930. She married James Eric Melville and raised three daughters before graduating from CWU with a Masters Degree in Psychology. She was proud of, and inspired by her family and the many young people she taught and counseled at Royal City High School for 22 years. ?Our importance in the world? she said, ?is to be the best friend and parent we can be ?. Jane loved celebrating holidays. She created unique and special family traditions. One favorite was the annual family Easter egg treasure hunt. As a young woman, Jane made her home a neighborhood gathering place; the children enjoyed impromptu magic shows, taffy pulls, and neighborhood parades. Jane loved people and flowers. She claimed many dear friends. Her gardens were gorgeous. Weekends in a Moses Lake flower shop led to her own part-time business ?Pretty Things? making floral arrangements for weddings. In the Tri-City Rose Society she was a past-president, she served as consulting Rosarian, Horticulture Judge, and Arrangements Judge. Launching from Basin Bloomers Garden Club/WSFGC, she judged flower shows and fairs, and joined her local chapter of PEO. Jane?s biggest dream was to bring more love and beauty to the world. As a Master Gardener, she was instrumental in planning the AARS accredited Grange Park Demonstration and Rose Test Gardens. Jane loved to cook and bake, her weekly gourmet Sunday dinners will be missed by family and friends. Jane?s creativity, zest for life, and selflessness made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She devoted her time and energy to her family and community. Her volunteer work really did bring love and beauty to this world. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, James Eric Melville; nephews and niece, Mike and Joel Melville and Matt, Mike and Dena Halligan. She is survived by her sister, Grace Ferryman; her daughters, Mindy Roy Cutler, Sandy Gael Gettelman Melville, Melissa Dave Engel; grandchildren, Ryan and Suzanne Cutler, Tatiana and Louis Gettelman, Eric and Jordan Engel and great-grandson Jayden Santana. Jane will be dearly missed, and we will cherish the gifts she left us; her sense of humor, ready laughter, love of family, tolerance and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gesa in Jane?s name. We will place memorial benches in the rose garden she so dearly loved. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 27, at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Nazarene, 2402 South Union, Kennewick. A reception will follow at Janes home, 1502 W. 16th Place, Kennewick.
