Obituary

Jean Evonne Longfellow Eakin, born on November 9, 1936, in Walla Walla, Washington, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the age of 88. Jean was the beloved daughter of Roy and Ella Tuttle and cherished sister to Jessie Tuttle Nunn, who preceded her in death in 2020. Jean's life was characterized by her deep faith in the Lord and her unwavering love for her family.

Jean met Ray Longfellow at a church picnic at Lake Wilderness and they began a loving correspondence while he served in the Navy. They were married in 1954 and welcomed three children: Ann Longfellow Wilson (married to John Wilson), Linda Longfellow Archuleta (married to Don Archuleta), and Mark Longfellow. Following Ray's passing in 1979, Jean found love again with Elbert Eakin, marrying him in 1980 until his death in 1995. For the last 30 years, she lived as a devoted widow.

Throughout her life, Jean was an active participant in her church communities, sharing her musical talents by playing the organ and piano, and directing choirs. She served as the church secretary at Bethany Community Church and held various secretarial positions, including a decade-long role at the Red Cross and the Grandview Herald. Jean was a wonderful mother who engaged deeply with her children's lives, fostering their creativity through crafts and cooking, and creating lasting memories on family camping trips.

Jean took immense joy in her role as a grandmother to David Wilson, Amanda Wilson, Alexander Archuleta, and Elizabeth Archuleta, regularly attending their significant life events and creating special moments for her grandchildren. She also delighted in her eight great-grandchildren, praying for them and celebrating their milestones. A lover of music, she was involved with Sweet Adelines and even had the honor of performing at the Sydney Opera House.

Jean's life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Bethany ECO Presbyterian Church on June 21, 2025, at 11 AM. All are welcome to attend in remembrance of a remarkable woman who profoundly impacted the lives of those she loved. Jean will be greatly missed by her family, but they find solace in knowing she is now at peace with Jesus.

Jean was preceded in death by: Roy Tuttle, Ella Tuttle, Ray Longfellow, Jesse Nunn
