Obituary

Joseph (Joe) G. Garza, the patriarch of a large loving family, survived by 6 daughters, 7 sons, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, has died at age 92. He passed peacefully under the care of his family and health providers on October 19, 2021. Joe was born to George and Petra Garza on March 19, 1929, in Robstown, Texas where he was raised with his 2 brothers and 5 sisters. As a young man in Texas, he played football in high school and met his love, Francis Juarez. They married and lived as husband and wife for 45 years, raising their 13 children together in Robstown, TX, Independence, OR, Royal City, WA, and settled in Pasco, WA, in 1981. Joe was a devoted husband to Francis until her passing in 1993. Deeply committed to providing for his own and extended family, Joe applied his extensive skills, technical acumen and unstoppable motivation to a broad career path. He worked as a truck driver with Brown Express, before owning his own trucking company. His roles at a contractor, foreman, and maintenance man lead him to his careers with the WA Migrant Counsel, and as a supervisor with Columbia Industries in the Tri-Cities. Joe greatly valued higher education for his family and for himself. Later in life, he completed an Associate in Arts degree from Big Bend Community College, in Moses Lake, Washington. He and Francis encouraged and supported their children to attend college. As a parent of many UW college graduates, Joe was presented with a plaque of honorary acknowledgement from the University of Washington. Joe influenced and inspired the lives of many with his commanding presence and compassionate heart. He'll always be remembered as the center of the family and will continue to hold the upmost respect of his loved ones and everyone that knew him. His Pasco home was a daily gathering place and location for many celebrations, bringing family and friends together. He was active is his community, attending mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Joe loved Tejano music, dancing, western films, and football. He was a captivating storyteller. As a part of his legacy, we are forever grateful and revere in his hard-work, numerous talents, and lifelong devotion to his family. We love you, and you will be missed, our beloved Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. Joe is survived by his 13 children: Jose Garza and wife Candelaria of Moses Lake; Janie Vijil and husband Raul of Pasco; BlancaEstela Martinez and husband Frank of Pasco; Juan Enrique Garza and wife Raquel of Yakima; Juan Manuel Garza and wife Olivia of Pasco; Alma Martinez and husband Tony of Pasco; Nancy Swinson and husband Aric of Centreville, VA; Nora Guerra and husband Felix of Pasco; Sandra Ortega and husband Victor of Bel Air, MD; George Garza and wife Celia of Pasco; Gary Garza and wife Sara of Yakima; Frank Garza and wife Corina of Pasco; Jesse Garza and wife Odilia of Pasco.
