Kathryn Ann
Spalding
Jun 15, 1940 — Apr 6, 2024
Kathryn Ann "Nan" Spalding (Bergin) passed peacefully in her residence in Pasco, WA on April 6th, 2024. Nan was born on June 15th, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN to Harold Carl and Alice Kay Bergin as the third of four children. She was raised there with her brother Gerry Bergin and her sisters Marilyn Bergin and Linda Bentson.
Nan was a lifetime lover of music and after high school began teaching piano while working in a music store. Soon after, she met and married Sheldon Reed Spalding. Their first four children were born while they lived in the Midwest and then when the family moved to the Pacific Northwest the youngest was born. While raising her family, Nan was always avid about being an active member of every Lutheran church that she joined, primarily by sharing her love of music and talent as a church organist. She returned to her passion of teaching in 1975, this time in Oregon, and continued giving piano lessons until she retired in 2019.
In 1983, Nan and family, moved to the Columbia Basin and taught students in Connell, Kahlotus, Washtucna, Basin City, Eltopia, Mesa, and Pasco. She loved interacting with her students just as much as she loved the music. Nan was also fond of animals, especially dogs, and always had multiple well-loved pets in her home. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with family. She was overjoyed at the arrival of each of her 14 grandchildren who live in Washington, California, Texas, and even as far as Western Australia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Sheldon, in 1999, her parents, her brother Gerry and his wife Sally Bergin, her brother-in-law Ross Spalding, her nephew David Spalding, and her great nephew Justin Linde. She is survived by her sisters, Marilyn Bergin, Linda (Scott) Bentson, her sister-in-law Sheila Spalding, her five children, Jeffery (Candy) Spalding and daughters Sabrina and Jasmine, Lisa Schuette and children, Jonathan, Jessica, and Jordan (Krysten), Beth (Rory) McCormick and children, Amber and Bradley, Jennifer (Robert) Rickman and children, Ryan, Lucy, Mathew, and Maggie, and Kristina Stredwick and children, Kathryn (Shane), Emily, and Jackson, her 6 great grandchildren, and numerous generations of nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, June 15th at 1 PM at Pasco First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice House in Kennewick.
