LaDonna Gail Kirkaldie, "Winyan Wanbee Wakan", 67, of Kennewick, WA passed away on April 21, 2022. She was born July 22, 1954, in Kalispell, Montana to William Lee Kirkaldie and Louise Angela Barrows-Kirkaldie. She was an enrolled member of the Fort Belknap Indian Community in Montana. She was married to Tracy Fowler in 1985; to Robert Shuckahosee, from 2003-2005, and to Gary Fannon from 2013-2021. LaDonna graduated from Polson Highschool in 1972, and Salish Kootenai College AAS Secretarial Science. LaDonna was born with Spina Bifida and she dedicated her life to working as an advocate for disabilities. She started her career as a disability advocate at Salish Kootenai College from 1988- 1994 working in various programs at the college. She was on the Train-the-Trainer's for the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. She co-founded the Area Wide Accessible Recreation for Everyone in the Flathead Valley that brought recreation access to people with disabilities. In 1994, she was hired by the University of Montana's Rural Institute on Disabilities where she worked for various national grants and programs until 2003, and from 2003-2005 she worked at the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Vocational Rehabilitation Center. She served as a chairperson for the subcommittee on Disability for the National Congress of the American Indians. In 2000, she was selected as one of 20 great leaders of the disability rights movement in Chicago, IL sponsored by Access living of Chicago for their "20 Leaders for 20 years". She was a lifetime member of the National Congress of the American Indians (NCAI). In her active years, she enjoyed kayaking, skiing, wheelchair basketball, camping, and traveling. To her family, she was a workaholic. LaDonna is survived by: her children Runa (Joseph) Martin, and Andrea (Tyrell) French. Her grandchildren Kahlana Gilson, Noelle French, and Noah French. Her sisters, Charlene Martinez and JoAnn Howard. She is preceded in death by: Her parents Louise and William Kirkaldie, her sisters Luwana, Janice Fay, Baby Girl and her brothers, Hugh, Baby Boy, Everette, Dallas, Delmer, her husband Robert Shuckahosee and her partner Gary Fannon.
