LaPriel Dayley was born to Mark "Y" Dayley and Mabel LaPriel Korth on April 15, 1939 in Twin Falls, Idaho. She grew up on a farm in Burley where her natural talent in music blossomed. LaPriel was singing at 18 months, playing tunes on the piano at three years old, and started formal lessons at five. At twelve she learned to play the organ. She was deeply devoted to God and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life. She served in all organizations in the church where she found joy in opportunities to serve as organist, pianist, teacher, choir director and even as camp director. She composed songs and musicals for church while serving in youth programs.

After LaPriel graduated from high school, she attended Utah State University for one quarter, where she majored in music. She married George Edward Garrett on February 6th, 1958, and went to live on a farm in southern Idaho. Over the next 10 years, they had 6 children. Cynthia Delaney, Mark Edward Garrett, Brett Dee Garrett, Tracy (Gibbons), Amy LaPriel (Haueter), and Rick Steven Garrett. LaPriel and Ed divorced in 1986.

In about 1969, Ed's work took the family to the Tri-Cities. This is where LaPriel raised her family. She taught her children how to pray, cook, clean, preserve food, make bread, read, write, spell, play the piano, love all kinds of music, love nature, and to listen. Family was always a top priority in her life.

LaPriel also loved learning and would find time to take college extension classes when she could fit it into her schedule. She attended a seminar sponsored by the college on careers for women in science. This conference inspired her to pursue a career in chemical engineering. She started at Columbia Basin College in 1980, and graduated with an Associate Degree in 1983. She loved attending CBC with two of her children during these years.

She was accepted to the College of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. She attended class at the satellite branch in Richland, but some of the required courses had to be taken on campus in Seattle. In June 1986, she was offered a full-time engineering position at Hanford and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering in August, 1987. She enjoyed working in nuclear materials clean-up projects and took pride in her work.

As her own children grew, 19 grandchildren came along, and she found great joy in each one of them. She attended the major events in their lives. She proudly displayed their pictures around her home, and loved talking about their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.

LaPriel found great joy in the gospel and was a master teacher. After her own retirement, she had a fun time serving a mission at the same time as some of those grandchildren. She served a full-time family history mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City starting in 2010. She was learning again as she supported the patrons using the FamilySearch software to gather family history information. She found time to take organ lessons while on her mission from Bonnie Lauper Goodliffe and played the organ in the tabernacle at Temple Square for a recital. That was an exciting day for her, and a dream come true.

She loved deeply and was grateful for family and friends all the days of her life. Her devotion to her Heavenly Father was unmatched, and her legacy of faith, love, and endurance will carry on in the memories of those who were blessed to know her. On May 9, 2023 LaPriel passed away peacefully at age 84.

LaPriel is survived by her brothers and sisters: Janet Dayley Hyde, "J" Mark Dayley, Viola Dayley Ricks, and Lee Korth Dayley. This loss is felt deeply by her five living children, 19 grandchildren, and 38 ½ great grandbabies. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Edward Garrett, who passed away at birth; her parents; her brother, Steven Y Dayley and a great grandson, Everett Antone Neilson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Jadwin Bldg.) 1321 Jadwin, Richland, WA with a Viewing from 10am - 11:45am and Funeral Services beginning at 12:00pm. Services in Burley Idaho will be on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the LDS Star 2nd Ward Chapel, 96 S. 200 W. Burley, ID. Visitation will be from 10-10:30am followed by a Funeral Service. Interment will be at 11:15am at the Gem Memorial Cemetery in Burley, Idaho.
