Surrounded by her family, Lois Hutton Elzey, a 32-year resident of Kennewick, Wash., went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2006. She was 80. Lois was born in Portland, Ore., Dec. 11, 1925, to James and Bessie Evenson Hutton. She grew up in Vancouver, Wash., and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1943. She attended college at the University of Washington, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi sorority. While at the ?U? Lois met her husband, James W. Elzey, in a marketing class. A year after earning a degree in home economics in 1947, Lois and Jim were married in Seattle. Over the next several years, they were richly blessed with four children. Jim?s career in banking with Seattle First National Bank took them to several locations throughout the state of Washington, including Seattle, Bremerton, Centralia, Wenatchee, and finally, Kennewick. Lois enjoyed golf, gardening, and traveling. However, her greatest joy was raising her children, which she often referred to as the most important job in the world. Summer vacations with her children and grandchildren at the family cabin in Seaside, Ore., were an annual highlight that Lois cherished. Lois was active in Kennewick First Lutheran Church and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Lois? husband Jim, her only brother James E. Hutton, and parents preceded her in death. In addition to son Thomas H. Elzey and daughters Marilyn Griffith, Janet Elzey, and Karen Latta, Lois is survived by grandchildren Tyler and Preston Elzey, Elizabeth and Alex Sherry, and Nicholas and Joshua Latta. Despite failing health over the past few years, Lois fulfilled her desire to stay in her own home until her last days. Her family is truly grateful to the faithful friends, neighbors, and amazing caregivers from Hope of Glory that made it possible. Lois will always be remembered for her keen interest in people, her determined spirit, and deep appreciation for her family?s heritage. But most of all, she?ll be remembered for her faith in God, her extraordinary devotion to family, incredible thoughtfulness, and uncommon generosity. These qualities leave behind a precious legacy of love that will never be forgotten. To honor and celebrate Lois? life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at Kennewick First Lutheran Church, 418 N. Yelm St., Kennewick, Wash.
