Lois Bybee Mitchell (93) passed away quietly on Thursday December 21, 2023, in Burbank, Washington, at the home of her son Don Jarvis Mitchell Jr. She was born on July 15, 1930, in Ogden, Utah to Wilford Arvel Bybee and Ruth Weston. She was the first of four children. She grew up in the Depression era. She was four years old when they got their first car, a model A Ford. She was 6 years old when she began learning to embroider and was 8 years old when she began to sew on a treadle sewing machine. She was 7 when they got their first refrigerator. She was 9 when World War II began. When she was 10 years old the family moved to Nyssa, Oregon. They farmed in the Owyhee area. She first met her future husband when she was in the fifth grade. She pushed him out of the seat on the bus.

When she graduated from high school, she was the Salutatorian and spoke at the graduation ceremonies. She married Don Jarvis Mitchell on July 9, 1948, in Nyssa, Oregon. He passed away June 7, 2015. At one time she mentioned that she fell off a horse while bringing in the cattle and injured her tailbone. As a result she had to have it broken whenever she had a baby. She had six children. They moved several times between Washington and Oregon finally ending up in Basin City, Washington. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions throughout her life. While living in Madras, Oregon she was called as a Seminary teacher. When they moved to Basin City, Washington she was again called as a Seminary teacher. She taught Seminary for 14 years. She loved her students, and many felt the same for her. Throughout her life she helped many people through her exceptional skills as a seamstress. She also loved quilting and hand applique. She made many beautiful quilts and wall hangings for her family and others. She also enjoyed machine embroidery. She and her husband served a mission with the Church Employment Services, and they also served as temple workers in the Columbia River Temple.

She is survived by her children: Diane Wheeler, Ivins, UT; Don (Nadine) Mitchell, Burbank, WA; Darwin (Missy) Mitchell, Nampa, ID; Blair (Janae) Mitchell, Spokane, WA; Son-in-law Steve Diquattro, Pleasant Grove, UT. Her brother Clyde Bybee, Prosser, WA; Her sister Karen (John) Peterson, Kennewick, WA; 19 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jarvis, daughters Janet Mitchell and Lisa Diquattro, Son-in-law Paul Wheeler, her brother Stan Bybee and his wife Margo, Sister-in-law Gay Bybee, granddaughters Cori Mitchell and Kaitlyn Stilwell, and great-grandson Cameron Allen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 8120 W. 4th Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336. You are welcome to greet the family from 10 to 10:45am, prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:00. A family luncheon will be held after the service.
