Mary Ann
Fleming
Jan 30, 1942 — Jun 30, 2023
Mary Ann (Mayek) Fleming aged 81, passed away peacefully in Kennewick, WA, surrounded by her loving family, on June 30, 2023. She was born in Stevens Point, WI, to Henry and Ada Mayek, on January 30, 1942. She attended Maria High School, and worked at the A&W restaurant where she met her one and only love, Leon Ray Fleming Sr. They were married in 1969 in Rockville, IN, as they traveled the country where Leon worked in construction. Mary and Leon had one daughter, April and Leon's children Leon "Ray" Jr., Diane, Tim, and Keith. In 1975, Leon's work led them to Richland, WA, and the Hanford project. One year later, they bought a home in Kennewick, where they have lived for the last 47 years.
Mary enjoyed and was exceptionally talented at creating things requiring patience and detail. Her kind, and compassionate spirit compelled her to volunteer her time, creating things that provided comfort, joy, and beauty to those around her. Some of her creations included ornately carved vegetable trays, beautifully cared for flower beds, crocheted blankets and hand-made holiday decorations and gifts. She felt that gifts from the heart meant more than anything.
In addition, Mary was an avid Seattle Mariners and Green Bay Packers fan. She was very sociable and enjoyed her time playing pool in a league in Kennewick. She was a member of the West Richland Moose lodge for many years. She loved to play and was an exceptionally good Texas Hold 'em player. She won some tournaments and was a regular at the local card room. She also loved to play slot machines. She and Leon had made trips to Reno, Las Vegas and frequented Wildhorse and other local casinos, throughout the years. Her favorite vacations were to Lincoln City, OR. where she loved the ocean, Chinook Winds casino, Pier 101, and shopping for sweatshirts. More than anything, Mary was a loving mother and devoted wife.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ada Mayek and her sister, Patricia "Pat" Hojnacki. She is survived by her husband, Leon R. Fleming Sr., her daughter April, stepchildren Leon "Ray" Jr., Diane, Tim, and Keith, her sister Arlene Mayek, and their families.
