Mary Ann (Davis) Gainey was born March, 3 1931 to Anna and Glen Davis, in Buena Vista Oregon. Shortly after that the family moved to Airlie Oregon, in Kings Valley. Mary was the seventh of nine children. Mary grew up on the farm, helping care for the animals, etc. The family cut and sold firewood for extra income, and all of the kids helped out. Mary learned to drive early, maneuvering farm trucks out in the fields. Mary went to primary school in Airlie, then high school in Monmouth. After high school, Mary moved to Salem Oregon. She worked in a cannery for a time, and a string factory. While in living in Salem, a friend introduced her to Thomas Gainey; they were married June 1, 1954. Their first son, Tom Gainey was born in August of 1955. A second son David Gainey was born in July 1958. The family settled in Corvallis where she raised her two boys. Mary worked a few different jobs, mostly doing housecleaning. Mary sold her home in Corvallis in 1995, and moved up to Richland to live with Tom and his Wife. She lived in Richland with Tom until August of 2018 when she was no longer able care for her own needs, and she entered a care facility. On the morning of December 16th, she was transferred to the Hospice House, where she passed the morning of the December 17, 2018. Mary loved to help out wherever she could. She wasn't always so able herself, but she often found someone who was less able than herself that she could help in some way. Mary was an invaluable help in caring for Tom's wife after she had suffered a stroke: helping with medications, and keeping an eye on things while Tom was at work. Mary loved the Gospel, and in the end fretted on how she was going to get to church, even though it was obvious that she could no longer physically go.
