Melanie Joy Waller, 68, died on September 16, 2026, in Richland, Washington.
She loved singing and playing her guitar, and Bible study was also an important part of her routine.
Born on June 7, 1958, in Spokane, Washington, Melanie's life was rooted i n her home state. She pursued her education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Washington University in 1984 and a Master of Education degree from Washington State University in 1989. Her academic accomplishments reflected a steady commitment to learning and growth that remained an important part of her life.
In her professional life, Melanie was recognized for her work by the State of Washington Division of Children and Family Services, which awarded her a plaque in 1995 as an Outstanding Employee. That honor stands as a meaningful acknowledgment of her service and the value of her contributions.
Melanie was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Bob Waller; her mother, Juanita; and her sister, Kathleen Sue Budde. She i s survived by her brother, Mark Waller; his wife, Linda; and their children, Steven and James. She is also survived by her niece, Crystal Hernandez; Crystal's husband, Alex; and their children, Angelina and AJ; her niece, Pearle Keith; Pearle's husband, Vike; and their children, Love, Roerich, and Enoch; and her nephew, Robert Budde.
Beyond her education and career, Melanie found joy in a wide range of interests. She enjoyed spending time with friends and valued the companionship those relationships brought to her life. She loved singing and playing her guitar, and Bible study was also an important part of her routine. Melanie enjoyed both playing and watching sports, and she took pleasure in outdoor activities including hiking and biking. She also loved quiet time at home with her dogs.

Those who knew Melanie also knew her as a very giving person, generous with both her time and her financial support. That generosity was an important part of how she moved through the world and how she connected with others.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Grace & Truth Community Church 3301 Bombing Range Road West Richland.
