Monica Tanille Shipley, 42, passed away on 1 January 2026, in Richland WA.

Monica was born on 23 March 1983, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon, to Vern L. and Louise Martindale. She joined the family with older four siblings: sisters- Dawn, Ardice and Koreena, and brother Tymon. She was a welcomed addition to the family and everyone enjoyed her lively and adventuresome spirit. She filled the home with large smiles and a contageious laugh. In 1990, she was joined in the family by a new baby brother, Brandon.

Monica spent her early years living in Lake Oswego, OR, a suburb southwest of Portland. She attended kindergarten at Lake Grove Elementary, and then the First through Third grade at River Grove Elementary. In 1993, the family moved to the City of North Salt Lake, UT where she attended Orchard Elementary School. She was somewhat amused that four of her children would later attend the same elementary school, the year they spent with with Grampa Martindale in 2021-22.

After gradeschool, Monica attended South Davis Junior High and then graduated from Woods Cross High School in 2001. That fall she enrolled at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, ID. In 2004, she received an Associates Degree in General Studies, followed by earning a Bachelors Degree in Home and Family Consumer Science in the Spring of 2006.

While attending BYU-Idaho, Monica met Michael Shipley, from Hillsboro, OR. They began dating shortly thereafter, and fell in love. Monica and Michael were married 16 June 2004, in the Bountiful Utah Temple and soon after returned to Rexburg to complete their education. Upon her graduation, they remained in Rexburg until Michael finished his Mechanical Engineering studies in 2008.

After his graduation they moved with their puppy, Hope, to live with his parents in Oregon while he looked for work. Due to scarce job openings during the recession of 2008, they followed a prospect in Salt Lake City and stayed with her parents in North Salt Lake. The employment opportunities turned out to be just as challenging in Utah as in Oregon. In the spring of 2009, a friend called and mentioned a job prospect in Pasco, WA. Michael interviewed for the position and was offered the job. They moved to Washington in the spring of 2009, where they made it their home. They lived in an apartment for several years, until 2011, when they were able to buy a home in Pasco and continue to enjoy life in the Tri Cities.

Monica and Michael wanted a big family, so her doctor told them the sooner the better. They took him at his word. In 2012 they added Seth to the family with, Sarah, James, John, Hannah, Lydia, Kayla and Tamra following shortly after. In 2018, it was evident they needed a bigger house and moved into their present home that Fall.

Monica loved being a mother and was very involved with each one of her children's lives and encouraging them to develop their talents, which included her love of quilting. She would often help them design their own quilts to enter into local contests. She loved spending time with each child and helping them develop their skills and abilities.

Monica was a very creative person and developed her exceptional talent of quilting. Michael encouraged her creativity and she became a celebrity among those who enjoyed the craft. Her work was well known and she won many awards for her efforts. One of her finest quilts was just completed a few days before her passing, with 365 hand-stitched "blocks" quilt that took almost an entire year to complete. She was justifiably proud of her work.

Monica was preceded by her mother, Louise and her mother-in-law Lucy. She leaves behind her husband of 20 years, Michael and her eight children. She also leaves her father, Vern Martindale of North Salt Lake, UT; her siblings: Dawn Martindale, North Salt Lake, UT; Ardice (Sean) Lorscheider, Alpine, UT; Tymon Martindale, Winder, GA; Koreena (Dan) Taualii, Cedar Hills, UT; and Brandon (Rebekah) Martindale, Pasco, WA, and her father-in-law Gerald Shipley, Las Vegas, NV, and her in-law family members: Robert Shipley, Dublin, CA; Julianne (Jordi) Andrews, Shelly, ID; Mark Shipley, Twin Falls, ID; Maren (Rafael) Aguilar, Las Vegas, NV; along with 16 nieces and 15 nephews.
