Ernestine Frances "Peggy" Lye passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 17, 2011 just six days from her 85th birthday. Peggy was born on March 23, 1926 at home in Lynden, Washington to Ernest and Naomi Furman. Her childhood was spent in western Washington logging camps where her father was a Teamster and her mother a camp cook. In her late teens, Peggy met a handsome Army soldier named Jake Lye at a dance. They were married on Christmas Eve 1943 in front of the Christmas tree at her parent's home. They soon had two sons, Jake E. Lye and Michael J. Lye. After World War II, Jake and Peggy bought a plot of desert land north of Pasco in the block 16 area. They worked seven days a week turning empty, desolate land into their own farm. Peggy cooked three full meals a day, took care of the household, raised two sons and worked side by side with her husband on the farm. Peggy worked hard her entire life. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting afghans, doing word search puzzles and most of all spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Jake, mother, father, sister, niece and nephew. Peggy is survived by son-Jake E. Lye Maxine, son-Mike Lye Trudy. Grandchildren-Amber Hanchette Dan, Jake A. Lye Laura, Tiffany Janikowski Dennis, David Lye HuiSon, Michael Lye Jr. and Dirk Lye. Great grandchildren-Michelle, Minji, Mandi, Madison, Cutter, Emerson, Jessie & Sydney. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, 11am at City View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Tri-Cities Hospice.
