Philip "Roger" McCombs passed through the veil to the other side of heaven on February 4, 2024, with his loving wife, Saundra McCombs, of 65 years at his side. Roger was born on May 10, 1940, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. He was from a large family of eight boys and five girls and considered himself to be lucky thirteen. He was the youngest in the family and had lots of older siblings to tease and look out for him.

Roger grew up on a farm in Orient, Washington, north of Spokane. The farm taught him many values alongside his older siblings. Roger was a hard worker and the farm taught him that ethic. Roger attended and graduated from Central Valley High School Spokane, WA in 1958. Roger met the love of his life and after high school he married Saundra Neddo, June 7, 1958, in Spokane, and have been married for 65 yrs. Saundra brought her big family of 10 brothers and 3 sisters. They have over a hundred combined number of nieces and nephews. Roger and Saundra love going to family reunions to see everyone. Roger and Saundra had three boys, Alvin, Scott, and Bryon. Roger was preceded in death by his two sons Alvin and Bryon. Roger's son Scott married Cindy and blessed them with three grandkids, Tony, Kealy, and Nick, who in turn gave Roger and Saundra a total of eight great grandkids, five girls and three boys.

During all this time with family, Roger still had time to serve his country and spent nine years in the Army reserves and was honorably discharged.

Roger and Saundra initially settled down in Spokane, WA. Roger worked for Owens Corning running crews and installing Owens products in schools and nursing homes all over the Northwest. Roger wanted to take his construction skills and entrepreneurial spirit and put them to work. He and Saundra later moved to Chewelah, WA and started Apollo Homes building manufactured homes for several years. However, Roger moved on and began selling cars at the Chevrolet dealership in Spokane. Roger was one of their top salesmen. Roger never met a stranger and would always connect personally to people. He developed many long-term relationships with his clients. Even up to his passing, one of those 40 year friendships that Roger and Saundra had from the dealership came to visit him.

While living in Spokane, the entrepreneurial spirit burning inside Roger never stopped. Roger and Saundra had a Christmas tree farm by the Washington and Idaho border. He created the Little Britches Rodeo during Expo 74 where kids could be cowboys and cowgirls riding Shetland ponies, steers, sheep and greased pigs. Roger really met his passion as a general contractor developing communities and building homes for families. Roger developed the Painted Hills subdivision in the Spokane Valley and initiated building some of the first homes there, he built over 250 homes on the Coeur d'Alene Indian reservation, their administration building, custom homes around Lake Coeur d'Alene, and covered moorage docks on the lake. Roger and Scott decided to move to Mesa, Arizona where their company developed building sites installing underground utilities and other construction projects.

While he was in Mesa, AZ he was commissioned by Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Scottsdale Art Assoc, Kohler, and Whirlpool to build a Frank Lloyd Wright model home in 1987 that was moved around the country and showcased in seven different cities, from Dallas, TX, Miami, FL, Seattle, WA, San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL Scottsdale, AZ and then in Washington DC the house set on a fountain near the Smithsonian.

Roger and Saundra then moved to Las Vegas where he and Scott continued installing underground utility installations. Roger had envisioned a change in US electrical infrastructure and with his love for composite materials he started Composite Power Corporation that had patented designs around fiberglass reinforced composite distribution power poles and transmission lines. As Roger was looking for someplace to settle the company down, he came to Richland, WA and spent the last 25 years and retired with his wife the love of his life.

Roger's viewing will be at 10 am and funeral services to will follow at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Keene Building at 3701 Watkins Way, West Richland, WA 99353
