PHYLLIS A JONES 1938-2025
Phyllis Anne (Winkle, Kirby) Jones was born October 22, 1938 in Everton, Missouri to Monta and Alma (Heaton) Winkle and big sister Cora LaVena. Within a few years the family relocated to Kennewick, Washington and lived for a time in a tent along the Columbia River while building a home and working at the Hanford area. Phyllis attended Kennewick High School and married Wayne R. Kirby. Three children were born of this union (Richard, Michael, and Tami). Phyllis and Wayne divorced while the children were in their early teens. She later married DeWayne Jones (DJ) and they traveled due to his jobs in retail, lastly managing an apartment complex near the college in Linn County, Oregon. They spent the early years of retirement living full-time in a motorhome so they could travel. Phyllis loved to bake and shop and was always fashionably dressed. They spent a lot of time on the Oregon coast visiting Tami and her family with the occasional trip to Kennewick to visit Phyllis's parents, and her sons and families. She also enjoyed reuniting with the life-long friends she had made in her early Kennewick years. In 2019 Phyllis and DJ moved to Kennewick where they remained until their passing. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, husband DJ, son Richard, and daughter Tami. She is survived by her sister LaVena Brown, son Michael (Reva) & grandchildren Nicole, Stacy, Rana, Karen; Rick's children Holly and Kristy; former daughter-in-law Mary; Tami's children Mandy and Cody; former son-in-law Don Olsen; ten great-grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. Services will be determined at a later date.
