Shirley Imogen Taylor, 83, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior on October 29th 2019, with her family by her side. Shirley is survived by her only child, daughter Phyllis Southards and her grandchildren Zoe Diaz, Freddy Diaz, and Xander Diaz. She has several great grandchildren, whom she adored including Ava, Aspen and Phoebe. Shirley was born in McCrory, AR, and grew up in Okemah, Oklahoma. She was one of five children. When she was six years old she contracted polio, which took the use of her legs for rest of her life. Despite this she went on to earn her master's degree in education at San Diego State University and her masters in psychology. She was later married to Strevell Taylor ll in 1969 and had their first and only child in San Diego California in 1974. She went on to create a life with her family, and to live full life. She taught elementary school, and counseled members of her church. Unfortunately time and COPD took her life in the end. Through so many dark times my mother often said, "I wish I was born a bird, so I could truly soar." In many ways my mother has truly soared in this life. She never stopped striving to learn and better herself despite her physical limitations and some peoples opinion because she was disabled she was somehow less capable of success. Mama, you are truly soaring now. Please, rather than sending flowers, donate whatever you feel is appropriate to a charity of your choosing; in loving memory of Shirley Taylor.
