Obituary

Stephen (Steve) Woodrow Foley, age 73, of Pasco, WA passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Steve was born on November 19, 1949 in Portland, OR to parents, Robert W. Foley and Mary E. Misun-Foley-Akridge. On the 27th of September 1969, Steve married Patricia (Pattie) K. Foley. They were married for 53 years. Steve served as a sergeant in the Army Reserve, and for 36 years, worked as a conductor and brakeman for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Northern Pacific Railroad, which took his family from Pasco, to Bend, OR, to Plains, MT, and back. All told, he was a resident of Pasco for over 50 years. Steve loved to spend time laughing (often at dad jokes) and telling stories (often about his time as a Pasco Bulldog, adventures in the Army, and interesting happenings on the rails). His passion was the railroad – he collected railroad memorabilia and enjoyed model trains. He also loved to read and to research Pacific Northwest history. If you asked him, he would tell you that his favorite place in the world was the Oregon Coast (with his family). Steve is survived by his loving wife, Pattie, and their three children: Travis S. (and wife, Kathy) Foley, Trevor W. Foley, and Tricia D. (and husband, Guy) Smurthwaite; his grandchildren Amanda (and husband, Mason) Chambers, Camden Foley, Phoebe Smurthwaite, Travis Foley, Jr., and Noah Smurthwaite; his great-granddaughter Steely Rae Chambers; and his cousin, Ron (and wife, Sandra) Grey. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, and two aunts and their spouses. His laugh, his antics, his love will be missed. Steve will be dearly missed.
