William, lovingly known as Bill, was voted Best All-Around Personality and kept that light in every relationship with thoughtful conversation, fun, and laughter. Though he passed away peacefully on September 25th, what should be highlighted was his life, starting in Eugene, Oregon, in a loving family with his mother and father, Janez and William Thomas, and brother Bradley.
From a young age he stood out as a natural leader and bright spirit, looking out for others in need. In high school he was an elite basketball and football player, winning championships and was frequently featured in the Eugene newspaper. Playing forward, he would frequently score baskets, but once his team had a lead, he'd pass up his own shots to let his teammates shine.
He was voted statewide by basketball coaches to receive a full-ride scholarship to the University of Oregon, where he was once again a star athlete. After his four years of basketball eligibility were over, he made the varsity football team.
After graduation in 1968, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and trained in Ranger tactics, Airborne operations, and Special Forces, commonly known as the Green Berets. He was commissioned as a first lieutenant.
Bill married Rebecca Hanf in 1975, and together they created a beautiful family with their children, Lindsey and Chad. During his career in the financial services industry, Bill, the high achiever, always reached the incentive trip level where his daughter would join him for the adventure.
In 2010, he married Alean Harwood, and together they relocated to Pasco, Washington. Bill immediately became a cherished part of the family, bringing warmth and humor to every gathering. At Christmas, he always ensured there was a gift that had the whole room laughing.
Throughout the course of his life, Bill loved the Lord. He lived as Jesus taught, proven by the impact he had on others.
Bill was beloved by his family, friends, and all those who came to know him. He is survived by Alean, Bradley, and Lindsey Thomas, Rod, Kim, Jessica, James, and Chelsea Harwood, Christine and Alex Crystal.
Preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Hanf, son Chad Thomas, and parents Janez and William Thomas.
Memorial service will be held at Faith Tri-Cities church on October 10th, 2026 at 2:00pm.
