William Jerome Traversie, known to family and friends as "Jerome" and affectionately nicknamed "El Ropo," passed away on March 31, 2026, in Richland at the age of 92.

Jerome was born on March 13, 1932, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation, to William and Della F. Traversie. He later made his home in Grandview, where he spent much of his life.

He graduated from Grandview High School in 1953 before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. Jerome dedicated 20 years of service as a mechanic before retiring from the Navy. Following his military career, he returned to Grandview, where he worked as a farmer and raised cattle.

Jerome was previously married to Rose Traversie. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), maintaining strong ties to his fellow veterans.

He had a wide range of interests and simple joys. Jerome loved working on crossword puzzles, following football, basketball, and track, riding his bicycle, listening to country music and reading. He often spoke of his ambition to one day visit New York. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, steady work ethic, and enduring sense of curiosity.

Jerome is survived by his brother, Khron Traversie, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held on April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Anchor Point Christian Fellowship.

Jerome will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
